…..no, ….no, ….it wasn’t mice, it was VOLES………….VOLES did it!!

Updated: Oct 18, 2021

Nothing like nearing the end of a long, snowy winter, only to find your lawn has been feasted upon by some stealthy burrowing creatures, a small rodent called a vole!

Although not too common, at least for the sites we routinely service here in the northwest suburban Chicago area, but earlier this spring we found several lawns that were fed upon by voles.

Network of tunnels, runways, cut across surface of lawn.

The longer snow cover remains, the greater the chance of voles venturing out of mulch or leaf covered beds, gardens, around tree roots, etc.  and begin feeding on adjacent lawn areas.

Depending on severity of damage and specific grass plant varieties effected, lightly stressed lawn areas can “heal” without much of any additional care.  However, in more extreme cases, the addition of clean top soil to fill any/all low areas, application of a granular starter fertilizer, planting of premium site specific grass seed and a light peat moss covering will go a long way to restoring full lawn density in no time.

Please be sure to contact Pacocha Landscaping Services, Inc. with any questions or lawn improvement requests you may have.  We greatly appreciate your time and look forward to being of assistance any way possible. Thank you for visiting our site and have a great day!
